US hit by massive power outage

A huge power blackout hit US cities last night, spreading from New York to Cleveland and Detroit and north into Canada.

The loss of power means there are no subways running in New York, with reports suggesting that thousands are stranded in subway tunnels.

The Government said there was no indication terrorist activity was involved.
