US town split over sign listing troop deaths

SCOTT CAMERON never imagined his modest memorial to US troops in Iraq would transform a quiet street into the latest front of the nation’s tense debate about the war in Iraq.

His sign tallying the dead and wounded is feet from the local army recruiting office, and his refusal to remove it despite army requests has drawn national attention. The fuss is allowing the Vietnam veteran to air a view he wishes he’d expressed long ago.

“The way veterans have been treated in this country is shameful,” Mr Cameron said.
