IRAQI attacks on Anglo-American warplanes patrolling the no-fly zones do not violate the tough new Security council resolution on Iraq, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said today.

>“Let me say that I don’t think the Council will say that this is in contravention of the resolution that was recently passed,” Annan said in Kosovo’s capital, Pristina.

However, in Washington, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the Iraqi anti-aircraft fire “appears to be a violation” of the UN resolution.
