Policemen who raped drunken teenage girl jailed

Ian Tolmaer, aged 37, who admitted rape at Preston Crown Court in January, was sentenced by Mr Justice Mackay, sitting at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Preston Crown Court had heard that he met his 18-year-old victim after she left a nightclub in Liverpool city centre last April.

Tolmaer took the teenager, said by witnesses to be “rotten drunk”, back to his home in Prescot, Merseyside, and raped her. He was a probationary officer with Merseyside Police when the incident took place and was dismissed from the force in December 2003. His victim was in court yesterday with members of her family. When officers raided Tolmaer’s home they discovered a video of his victim unconscious. He had also taken digital photographs of her sleeping.

His computer was seized and officers found that he had searched for information about date rape drugs and had visited websites showing sleeping and unconscious women.

After the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Bob Marsden of Merseyside Police said: “It was like he was doing it to a dead body.”

He said he was “shocked and sickened” by what he had seen in the video Tolmaer had taken of his victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
