Carr broke down in tears when told lover charged with murders

MAXINE CARR broke down in tears when she learned her lover had been charged with the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, the former couple’s Old Bailey trial heard yesterday.

Carr, who had remained composed throughout two days of police questioning, sobbed: “He can’t have been, he can’t have been.”

She had already admitted she had lied to protect her fiancé Ian Huntley because he had been falsely accused of rape four years earlier.
