Paper gets on with the job against all odds

THE New Orleans Times-Picayune has struggled against almighty odds to continue printing daily news from the heart of the disaster zone.

It was forced to abandon its city headquarters last week, where reporters and their families slept in office corridors before taking to the streets to get on with the job.

The newspaper vented its wrath in an open letter to US President George W Bush, blasting his government’s response to Hurricane Katrina.
