Killings at polling stations mar Pakistan elections

SHOOT-OUTS between political rivals killed three people yesterday, marring the first general elections in Pakistan since a 1999 military coup led by President Pervez Musharraf ended democratic rule.

Several people also were wounded in the gunfights in southern Sindh province and Punjab province, the country's most populous region.

The shoot-out at a Sindh polling station between loyalists of rival political parties killed two people, while the violence in Naushoro injured several people.
