Bush’s approval ratings slump to record low

US PRESIDENT George Bush's public approval ratings have sunk to a new low five months before the November election.

According to an opinion poll in yesterday's Washington Post, 50% of Americans surveyed disapproved of the job Mr Bush was doing overall, with 47% approving of his performance the lowest overall figure in Washington Post-ABC News polls since the Republican President took office.

Four of every 10 gave Mr Bush positive marks for his handling of Iraq, the lowest since the start of the war.
