Afghan singers banned

WOMEN singers have been banned from appearing on television in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar after their performances were branded un-Islamic.

“We were told that women singers should not appear on Nangarhar TV anymore,” the provincial television broadcasting director, Zubair Khaksar said.

“In the last two years we always had women news presenters and women songs on television but now we have been told it is un-Islamic.”
