Taoiseach welcomes news of Saddam's capture

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern yesterday welcomed the news that Saddam Hussein had been arrested, describing it as "a great day for Iraq".

Mr Ahern, speaking in Dublin yesterday, said it was a significant moment that had brought the end to the career of a brutal dictator.

"This man brought huge hardship on his own people for many years and brought a lot of suffering," he said.
