Bail denied to British journalists

Toby Harnden and Julian Simmonds, both of the Sunday Telegraph, were arrested near a polling station in last week’s general election. If convicted they could be jailed for three years.

A magistrate yesterday ordered they be released on bail, but prosecutors produced a government order demanding they be kept in Harare’s remand prison.

The two already have been served with deportation notices.
