THE Prince of Wales flew back to Britain from Rome yesterday afternoon, but Charles and his soon-to-be bride Camilla spent last night apart.

Despite sharing a home already, Charles was with his sons Princes William and Harry at Highgrove, while Camilla remained at Clarence House. Her daughter Laura Parker Bowles was thought to be with her.

Charles and Camilla should in fact already have been married but were forced to delay their nuptials for a day so the Prince could attend the Pope's funeral.

While the heir to the throne was with world leaders paying his last respects to Pope John Paul II, the future Duchess of Cornwall had the final fitting for her wedding outfit.

Her couturier Anna Valentine, milliner Philip Treacy and shoe designer Linda Bennett all gathered to put the last minute touches to her top secret ensemble.

There may even be a spot of good luck on its way for the "jinxed" wedding. Forecasters are now predicting a cloudy, breezy but dry day today.

The town of Windsor has been gripped by wedding fever as last-minute preparations began.

The world's media descended on the royal borough and groups of tourists braved rain and sleet to share their views on the wedding through passing television cameras.

Every vantage point opposite the castle from various balconies to the roof of an off-licence was being turned into a temporary broadcast location.

Local shops reported brisk trade thanks, in part, to a surge in interest in Charles and Camilla souvenirs boosted by the change in date from Friday, April 8, to Saturday, April 9.
