Kerry no war hero, says ex-comrade

DOUBTS were raised yesterday about the much-vaunted military record of US presidential contender John Kerry after a former comrade said the Democrat was “not a war hero”.

Mr Kerry, now a US Senator, won three purple hearts and a silver star for gallantry as a naval officer in Vietnam.

In a well-publicised incident, Mr Kerry was said to have leapt from his boat to shoot a Vietcong soldier who was about to launch a mortar at his craft.
