Cabinet should make McCreevy scrap his SSIA scheme

IT appears that Charlie McCreevy's right hand has no idea what his left hand is doing.

On the one hand he has put the squeeze on his fellow cabinet Ministers to slash close to 300 million euro off the departmental budgets this year, while on the other hand he is dropping close to 500 million euro into the Special Savings Incentive Accounts of people well-off enough to be able to avail of the 1 for every 4 saved scheme.

Some Ministers have been more than happy, it seems, to oblige.
