ONLY one-third of the road projects earmarked under the National Development Plan (NDP) will or have been completed on time.

And the Construction Industry Federation says it will be 2012 before the 36 projects are completed as a result of the swinging cutbacks in the 2003 estimates. All are regarded as vital to creating a proper road transport system for a modern economy.

Most crucial are the dual carriageway and motorway links planned between Dublin and the Border, Dublin to Cork, Dublin/Limerick and Dublin/Waterford.
