A GREAT White shark has surprised scientists by making an epic journey from South Africa to Australia and back, covering 19,988 kilometres.

Previously the fearsome creatures were thought to confine themselves mainly to coastlines.

But scientists who risked life and limb to tag 32 Great White sharks and plot their movements discovered they were easily capable of swimming between continents.
