Human smuggling plan uncovered

POLICE yesterday said they arrested two Albanians planning to smuggle seven people by speedboat to neighbouring Italy.

Mezin Tamaj, 35, and Maglen Velaj, 31, were arrested yesterday for allegedly trying to shuttle a woman and six men across the Adriatic Sea from Kavaja, 30 miles south-west of Tirana, police said.

The seven would-be illegal migrants, who each paid £1,400 (€2000) for the trip, were questioned and released.
