US helicopter crashes in Okinawa

A US military helicopter crashed and burst into flames on the grounds of a university on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa yesterday, injuring three military personnel, but there were no civilian injuries.

The incident is likely to fan simmering resentment of the US military on Okinawa.

A fire department official in the city of Ginowan said the three injured were believed to be the helicopter’s crew.
