Vanessa Mae stalker freed

A STALKER who refused to stay away from violinist Vanessa Mae walked free from court yesterday despite being sentenced to a six-month jail term.

Magistrates at West London decided David Martin should go free because of the time he had already spent in custody on remand.

Martin, 57, bombarded the former child prodigy with letters saying he loved her and wanted to marry her.

The unemployed hospital engineer, from Brighton, Sussex, also kept a diary of the 25-year-old musician’s movements and followed her.

He was first arrested on October 17 last year, carrying a lock knife outside one of her homes.
