ADMISSIONS to an English hospital ward have been stopped after two elderly patients died from the superbug MRSA.

Bosses at the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham, Kent, said the disease, which is resistant to antibiotics, had “played a part” in the deaths on the orthopaedic Arethusa ward. A health protection team has begun an inquiry to establish any link between the eight deaths in September, all of them elderly patients.
