New drug hope for hepatitis C sufferers

A REVOLUTIONARY medicine may offer new hope to sufferers of the “silent killer” disease hepatitis C, it was revealed yesterday.

The drug, known as a protease inhibitor, blocks an enzyme that is needed by the hepatitis C virus to reproduce.

It is the first of its kind to be tested in a patient trial, which showed dramatic results.
