Footballers unite in plea for help to find girls
The squad lined up in team shirts to record a plea from manager Sir Alex Ferguson urging people to come forward with information to locate the missing 10-year-olds.
When they vanished from Soham in Cambridgeshire 12 days ago, they were wearing red David Beckham football tops.
Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Every player here is hoping and praying that Jessica and Holly come home soon. Our hearts go out to the families. No-one can imagine what this must be like for them. I’m asking you, the public, to support the police and contact them if you have any information. Everyone around me wants the girls home where they belong. Your help can make it happen.”
Cambridgeshire Police asked Manchester United to get involved because the two girls were big fans of David Beckham.
The Manchester United skipper has already made one appeal, soon after they went missing, urging them to come home.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Hebb said: “We are extremely grateful to Sir Alex, to the team and all the officials at Manchester United for their continuing support.” in this major inquiry.
“It is also of significant help to all officers but particularly to the families to know that so many people, Manchester United included, support the police efforts to find Jessica and Holly.”
