TROUBLED rock star Pete Doherty appeared to kick a reporter yesterday in scenes of mayhem minutes after he admitted a batch of drug possession offences.

Doherty admits drug offences as court appearance turns to shambles

The 26-year-old Babyshambles frontman had just clambered on to a wall outside Thames Magistrates’ Court, London, following his 20-minute hearing when he lashed out.

A microphone flew through the air as a BBC reporter clutched her elbow.

Seconds later, Doherty ran down the street pursued by a 20-strong media posse.

Kate Moss’s former boyfriend, sporting his trademark trilby, clambered into a waiting Jaguar XJ6 and hopped into the driver seat before nearly colliding with a red car as he tried to pull away at high speed.

Earlier Doherty was accused of having 0.406gm of heroin, 0.776gm of crack cocaine, 0.332gm of cannabis resin and 5.94gm of cannabis on December 18 in Riverside Close, Clapton, east London.

The court clerk then read out three further possession charges committed on January 14. They involved 3.103gm of heroin, 3.664gm of crack cocaine and 2.503gm of cannabis, this time in nearby Dunlace Road.

After being told that even if he admitted the charges he could be sent to the Crown Court for sentence, Doherty replied: “I plead guilty to each of these charges.”

“He is a very talented man. Unfortunately, every move he makes has been in the spotlight,” defence lawyer Sean Curran said.

Judge Jane McIvor adjourned the case until April 20, which will allow the court to see the latest results of a court-imposed review of Doherty’s treatment programme.

Doherty first became known as the frontman of The Libertines but really made his name as model Kate Moss’s boyfriend.
