THE Government is to probe the statistics used by Eddie Hobbs in his hit TV show, Rip Off Republic, which has sparked massive anger towards the Fianna Fáil-PD Coalition over high consumer prices and stealth taxes.

A spokeswoman confirmed Mr Hobbs's programme the fourth and final installment of which attracted more than 837,000 viewers on Monday night had been discussed by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and his ministers at yesterday's Cabinet meeting.

It was decided Government officials would review the tapes of each show, list the statistics used, and send them to the relevant departments for analysis.
