Japan pledges fund to fight HIV

JAPAN'S Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi yesterday pledged $500 million (€413m) over the next few years to the global effort to eradicate HIV/Aids, malaria and tuberculosis.

"We cannot tolerate a situation in which one person is killed every five seconds from these three killer diseases," Koizumi said in Tokyo.
