Taxpayers to foot €141m pay deal bill

TAXPAYERS and local businesses will end up footing the €141 million bill needed to cover pay rises for local authority workers.

The massive figure emerged yesterday as the definite estimate of how much the 9% benchmarking deal and the 17% pay rise for craft workers will cost local authorities.

The Department of Finance yesterday confirmed no Exchequer funding would be made available to cover the increases.
