CONSTANT heavy rain brought severe flooding to many parts of the country yesterday, but Met Éireann expects the stormy conditions to ease off today, although some showers are forecast.

Flooding and surface water across the country caused long delays for motorists returning to work after the bank holiday weekend Dry weather yesterday afternoon and evening brought respite to people living in the west one of the areas of the country worst affected by the sustained downpours.

Extensive flooding in east Galway one of the most flood-prone parts of the country again caused severe problems around Loughrea, Woodford and Athenry.
