VIDEO Kill Your Friends red band trailer - Nicholas Hoult goes psycho
Here's the first trailer which is NSFW for language.
That's one frenetic trailer, which mostly serves to make the film seem even more similar to Mary Harron's 2000 movie American Psycho. This seems similarly self-aware and full of voice over, and there's even a bare chested shot of Hoult which wouln't have looked out of place in the other film. Though Christian Bale was definitely in better shape.
Kill Your Friends is also based on a book, in this case a 2008 tome by Scot John Niven which is about a music exec in the 90s who goes to unnatural lengths to secure record deals. By basically killing anyone else who is interested. Which sounds very cheery altogether.
It's definitely a departure for Hoult, who hasn't had many purely dramatic roles in his career. Regardless of the nature of the film he's going to come up against comparisons to Bale, which probably won't help his case. Craig Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, James Corden and Tom Riley co-star in a film directed by TV helmer Owen Harris.
