Bohs to remain in Dalymount until May 2027 after rebuild delay

Bohemians have delayed their temporary departure from Dalymount Park but the extension that covers the first half of 2027 will mean fixtures being played daytime on weekend days. 

It has been flagged that the League of Ireland club were facing into their final games before the rebuild begins but an amended construction plan into phases presented scope to stay.

While work will begin first on the Tramway end to facilitate the Phibsboro Shopping Centre project, the remainder will remain untouched until Bohs depart at the end of May.

Because floodlights will be removed, the traditional Friday night fixture night for the men’s team is gone. An expected dispensation from the FAI will allow them to stage games on Saturdays, even Sundays if needed, depending on the women’s team’s schedule.

Construction has been estimated to last two years, with a new €63m, 8,034-capacity due to be available for fixtures and events for the start of the 2029 season.

Bohs have confirmed that more than one alternative venue will be used during their time away from Dublin 7.

Richmond Park, the home of St Patrick’s Athletic in Inchicore, will likely house the majority of matches but the more in-demand spectacles, such as Dublin derbies, will probably move to the recently revamped 20,500-seater RDS in Ballsbridge.

Bohs chief commercial officer Daniel Lambert highlighted the loss of matchday revenue as the driver of their new arrangement with Dublin City Council.

“Our absolute priority is the financial security of our club when we're out of Dalymount,” he said.

“Income projections become uncertain, costs skyrocket.

“Given that, we were insistent that once it became apparent this week we will stay till the final moment when other works begin.” A statement added: “An information meeting for club members to discuss next season's arrangements will be scheduled in the near future.” 

Bohs hosts Drogheda United on Friday, with a potential opportunity of rising to joint-top on points alongside St Patrick’s Athletic and champions Shamrock Rovers.
