Bohs keep title hunt going with win over hapless Sligo

Bohs remained hot on the heels of Shamrock Rovers with a comfortable 3-nil win over a Sligo Rovers side that looked resigned to going down, thanks to three first-half goals from Dawson Devoy, Ross Tierney and Jordan Flores.

Unchanged from last week's blitz of Derry City the hosts, with just three games left at the famous old ground (potentially) before its redevelopment, were looking to harness that emotion to not only give the fans the send-off it deserved but also keep themselves in contention in the title race and it was evident to see from the first whistle.

Starting confidently and playing some intricate football, the home side grabbed the lead with a wonderfully worked move with eight minutes played.

The Bohs skipper, Devoy, cleverly stepped over an inside pass from right back Darragh Power, allowing the ball to run to Harry Vaughan who, in turn, played a first-time pass into his skipper's path and the Irish International did the rest, smashing the ball into the far bottom corner.

Douglas James-Taylor really should have doubled his side's lead moments later from an inch-perfect power cross, but from just a couple of yards out headed downward straight at Sargeant.

The Englishman made amends just before the half-hour mark, coolly tucking away the rebound following another free-flowing move that saw Vaughan’s powerful strike parried into his path, finishing first time.

It was all too easy for Bohs who put the game to bed just before the break when Flores picked out the top corner with a trademark free-kick from 25 yards.

The shell-shocked visitors, who had been unbeaten on their last three visits to Dalymount, did stem the flow of one-way traffic in the second half but it was Bohs saw out the game untested and put themselves level on points with second-place St. Patrick’s Athletic.
