Stirling Albion have put manager Alan Maybury on gardening leave having decided not to extend the Dublin native’s contract beyond the end of the current season.
The former Republic of Ireland international leaves the Binos sitting from third bottom in the Scottish League 2 and all but safe from the threat of relegation, although they would be bottom if Edinburgh City and Dumbarton had not received points deductions.
"Alan joined us in a difficult period following our relegation from League 1,” Stirling chairman Fraser McIntyre told the club’s official website on Easter Monday.
"Whilst these decisions are never easy, we believe this is the right step for the club at this time."
And taking to X after his two-year reign had been ended Maybury, who won 10 caps with Ireland admitted he was disappointed to be leaving Albion in this manner, although it was intention to part ways with the club at the end of the campaign.
“I am disappointed to be leaving Stirling Albion after being informed that my contract will not be renewed,” posted the 47-year-old.
“Following what has been a challenging two seasons, it had been my intention to move on at the end of the campaign due to the level of change at the club.
“I would like to thank Alasdair Dunn and Andy Kennedy for giving me the opportunity to manage the club.
“When I arrived after relegation, there were only eight players at the club, alongside a shift in policy towards developing a pathway for young players.
“During my time here, I handed 21 debuts to players who had never previously played league football, accounting for nearly 38% of all player appearances across the two seasons.
“In the 2024/25 season, we recorded the third-highest match minutes for Scottish players under 21.
“Working with one of the smallest budgets in the league, I believe I delivered on the objectives set, despite losing key members of administrative and backroom staff, as well as navigating changes in the chairman and board.
“Finally, I would like to thank all the players and staff. I truly appreciate your effort and support, and I wish everyone at the club the very best for the future.”
