Evan Ferguson has been ommited from Roma's squad for Thursday's final Europa League group-stage match against Panathinaikos, with Italian media reporting that the Ireland striker has aggravated an ankle problem.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Ferguson has “raised the white flag”, after pain in his left ankle flared up again.
VoceGiallorossa.it confirmed: “Ferguson continues to feel ankle pain … so Gasperini decided not to call him up for tomorrow’s match.”
Tutto Sport says Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini is facing "a total emergency in attack", with new arrivals Donyell Malen and Robinio Vaz not yet available for European duty. Artem Dovbyk, Stephan El Shaarawy, Manu Koné and Mario Hermoso are also on the injured list.
Gasperini may reveal more about Ferguson's latest injury in Wednesday's pre-match press conference.
The Roma boss has previously acknowledged Ferguson’s ankle issues, having referred to the striker’s injury history affecting his availability this season.
