The latest Troy Parrott hat-trick has proved costly for Ajax after the club vowed to refund supporters following the humiliating 6-0 loss to Parrott's Alkmaar in the Dutch Cup.

The Ireland striker shone in front of his international boss Heimir Hallgrimsson, who visited the Netherlands on a scouting mission to check on Parrott's form. 

The Dubliner obliged leaving the famed Amsterdam club counting the cost of their biggest defeat as a professional club.

"We are ashamed of this result," said Ajax manager Fred Grim. "We believe we should cover the costs for the away fans. And we will do so."

The means covering the costs for 1,200 travelling fans. Ajax player Youri Regeer added: "It wasn't Ajax-worthy today," "As a club and as a group of players, we have to compensate for the tickets. That's the only thing we can do."

Parrott enjoyed his return to form after a dry spell in front of goal. "I needed that goal," said the striker, of his opener. "Those are the best goals, when you're in the right position. I scored against Fortuna, but I haven't scored much in the previous matches. I didn't score against Volendam on Saturday either. I always want to score, so it's nice to get an easy goal."

The 23-year-old added Alkmaar's second on the half hour, latching onto goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro's long pass to finish coolly. "We talked about it beforehand," said Parrott. "He played a really good ball. I'm very happy with this goal. I think it's a beautiful goal."

Of completing another hat trick following his Ireland heroics in Budapest, Parrot said: "It's very special. A hat trick is the best feeling you can have as a striker."
