John Egan has been rewarded with a contract extension at Hull City on account of his Championship revival.
The Ireland defender joined the Tigers on an 18-month deal last February but has featured sufficiently in their march to fifth in the table to have an extra season added.
It’s been a hectic period for the son of late Kerry GAA great John.
He ended a two-year hiatus from Ireland action, primarily due to injury, by coming on as a late substitute in the World Cup qualifier away to Portugal in October for his 37th cap.
Egan has played a total of 34 matches for Hull, featuring 11 times last season and helping City keep clean sheets in crucial 1-0 wins at Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.
Only five of the Tigers’ 25 Championship fixtures this term haven’t involved Egan.
Wearing the captain’s armband against Blackburn Rovers, his first goal in black and amber was a dramatic 97th-minute equaliser away to Swansea City last September.
"A lot of people were surprised when I left Burnley to come to Hull, but I knew, if we stayed up, the quality of players that were coming back and they wanted to bring in," Egan told BBC.
"Most of the time I have been in the Championship I have been challenging up and around the top end.
"We signed good players in the summer and the manager has come in and been brilliant.
"We're only halfway there and there's a lot of football to be played, but I'm really enjoying it. The fanbase is fantastic."
The Tigers host fourth-placed Watford on Sunday.
