James McClean will miss Wrexham's Christmas programme after he was handed a three-match ban for an offence picked up by cameras in last Friday's derby defeat by Swansea City.

In videos circulated on social media, the former Ireland international was seen aiming a boot towards prone Swans' Brazilian winger Ronald in injury time.

A Football Association statement said McClean has admitted a charge of violent conduct.

"The player's behaviour around the 94th minute wasn't seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on video, and the FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct.

"James McClean subsequently admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard penalty for violent conduct."

McClean had returned to the Wrexham side in recent months with New Zealand left-back Liberato Cacace sidelined through injury.

But the 36-year-old Derry man will now miss Wrexham's upcoming games against Sheffield United, Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers.

"Wrexham can confirm James McClean will be suspended for three matches, following an incident in the match against Swansea City," the club said on their website.

"Though referee Oliver Langford took no action at the time, McClean was charged following review of the match video, for misconduct for a breach of rule E1.1."
