It has been a wonderful fortnight for Seamus Coleman but there was  disappointment at Old Trafford tonight as the Everton veteran was substituted inside the opening 10 minutes against Manchester United.

Coleman was handed his first start in more than two months by David Moyes, having impressed in Ireland's World Cup wins over Portugal and Hungary.

However he was withdrawn after nine minutes, presumably injured, though he had a difficult opening to the game, misplacing a couple of passes.

Coleman looked particularly disappointed as he trudged off down the tunnel to be replaced by Ireland collegue Jake O'Brien.

In Sky Sports commentary, Gary Neville concluded that Coleman was injured. "I've been there. Disappointment for Seamus Coleman. I feel for him. 37 years of age, it's when your body starts to fail you a little bit."

Coleman was soon followed down the tunnel by teammate Idrissa Gueye, dismissed after a bizarre incident when he appeared to slap teammate Michael Keane in the face as the pair argued following a Bruno Fernandes goal attempt.
