More than one million were watching RTÉ for dramatic final moments against Hungary

More than one million viewers tuned in to RTÉ for the closing minutes of Ireland’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Hungary on Sunday. The game had an average audience of 788,000, representing a 75% share of those watching television in Ireland at the time. There were a further 435,000 streams on the RTÉ Player. At 4.02pm, as Troy Parrott scored the winner, 1.017 million viewers were watching.
Thursday’s victory over Portugal drew an average audience of 711,000 and a 57% share, with the 2-0 win peaking at 966,000 viewers. A day later, Ireland’s penalty shoot-out victory for the U17s against Canada at the Under-17 World Cup had a peak audience of 334,000 and an average of 109,000. Later that evening, 184,000 viewers watched the U21s’ 2-0 defeat to England in Birmingham in full.
In rugby, Ireland’s win over Australia on Saturday delivered an average audience of 690,000, a 54% share of the available audience.
