Cobh Ramblers have announced Fran Rockett as the new head coach of their men's team. Rockett succeeds Mick McDermott who abruptly departed the club a fortnight ago.
A former Ramblers player, Rockett previously served as assistant manager at Cobh under both Shane Keegan and Darren Murphy. He also spent four years at Waterford, including time as head coach after John Sheridan departed in 2020
"He eats, sleeps, and breathes football and will represent the club with energy and honesty," Cobh director of football Conor Meade said about Rockett.
"It’s an exciting appointment, and we as a club will do all we can to help him."
McDermott left Cobh after guiding them to second in the First Division but exited before they faced Treaty United in the promotion play-off semi-final. That was a tie they lost 2-1 on aggregate.
In a statement, Cobh said that Rockett is "no stranger to St. Colman’s Park, having previously been involved with the club in a variety of coaching capacities".
"He brings a wealth of League of Ireland experience and a deep understanding of the game, having worked with several clubs across both the Premier and First Divisions in recent years," it continued.
"Known for his strong coaching philosophy, professionalism, and commitment to player development, Fran has earned widespread respect within Irish football circles. His familiarity with the club’s culture and ambitions makes him an ideal fit as Cobh Ramblers continue to build a sustainable and competitive football model both on and off the pitch."
Meanwhile, Ciarán Kilduff has signed a new two-year deal as Dundalk manager. He is set lead the club on their return to the Premier Division next season. Last week, Kilduff tendered his resignation as manager of the club he guided to the First Division title.
However, following "positive talks" with Kilduff about the "strategic direction" of the club, he has decided to stay.
"What started as a privilege, yet a leap of faith, has become the opportunity of a lifetime," said Kilduff.
"To commit to two more years minimum at this club, with this group, seems easy now. Dundalk 3:16."
Dundalk executive directory Chris Clinton added: "We are delighted that Ciarán has committed to remain at Dundalk FC after signing a 24-month rolling contract, ideally for many seasons ahead. We are convinced that Ciarán is the perfect person to lead the club forward, both on and off the pitch, in the LOI 2026 Premier Division, the club’s centenary season.
"Ciarán’s ability to identify and nurture talent, integrate young players into a professional environment, along with his dedication and leadership, are combined skillsets that make him uniquely qualified for the most vital position at the club. We are honored and delighted to have Ciarán secured for the future."
