Shamrock Rovers pip battling Cork City to retain WU17 Cup

Shamrock Rovers won the EA SPORTS League of Ireland Women's Under-17 Cup for the second year in a row following a 1-0 victory over Cork City in Athlone Town Stadium.
The Hoops were victorious in the same venue last year - when they beat Athlone Town - and they did enough to retain the trophy against a well-organised Cork City side, who fought to the end for a leveller.
Alice Buggle broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when she was in the right place to convert after a cross from the left wing came back off Cork goalkeeper Amy Dalton.
Captain Mia Murtagh struck the crossbar with an effort and Sophie Byrne went close with a snap shot as Rovers finished the first half on top.
The tempo increased in the second period as Cork City chased an equaliser and they pushed Rovers back inside their own half with some excellent attacking play, but the final pass never enabled them to truly trouble goalkeeper Sarah Doyle.
At the other end, Dalton had to be on full alert to stop Sophie Clarke from increasing the lead for Rovers and there were half chances for substitutes Mia Gaff and Sarah Reynolds.
Cork rallied all the way to the end but Rovers defended well to secure the win thanks to the single goal from EA SPORTS Player of the Match Buggle.
In the Women's Under-19 Cup final, second-half goals from Sophie Hanlon and Leiagh Glennon helped Bohemians beat Treaty United 2-0.
This is the first trophy that Bohemians have won at women's level since entering the League of Ireland but judging by the talent on display it may not be long before they add even more silverware.
Referee Klaudia Pawula led an all-female team of match officials that also included Hannah O'Brien, Chloe Kenna and Vicki McEnery, but they didn't have much to do in what turned out to be a free-flowing game between two very good teams.
Bohemians - who had scored 106 goals this season going into this game - showed that bit of extra class when it counted, like when Hanlon opened the scoring on 52 minutes with a sweet right-footed strike.
It took just four minutes for EA SPORTS Player of the Match Glennon to double their lead when she raced clear and fired in from a tight angle.
Treaty never gave up and proved that they deserved to be contesting this Final with a strong showing. But the day belonged to Bohemians and they took the trophy back to Dublin 15.
