Storm Amy: Cork City 'confident' cup tie goes ahead; Treaty and Ulster clashes off

Cork City insist it is "everyone's expectation" that Friday night's FAI Cup semi-final clash with St Patrick's Athletic will go ahead as planned.

However, Friday night's SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division fixture between Treaty United and Longford Town has been postponed after a pitch inspection failed at Markets Field this morning amid yellow weather warnings and heavy rainfall in the area.

That game has now been rescheduled for Sunday, October 5 at 4pm.

Meanwhile, Friday night's URC fixture between Edinburgh and Ulster has been postponed due to worsening conditions across Scotland.

But despite the wind and the rain causing havoc on Leeside, the Rebel Army remain confident the match will be played as normal after the pitch already passed an early check on Friday morning.

The club posted on social media:"Grounds staff and club officials have checked the pitch this morning and we can confirm it has held up well despite the current bad weather.

"Based on pitch conditions and the forecast for the remainder of the day, it is everyone’s expectation that tonight’s game will go ahead as planned."

The URC, meanwhile, "will now consider available dates with broadcasters and both clubs to reschedule" Edinburgh v Ulster.

Ulster said: "Ulster supporters who have travelled to Edinburgh this weekend, please take care and stay safe on your journey home."

The League of Ireland have also announced that Derry City's Premier Division clash with Sligo Rovers, along with Drogheda United's trip to Waterford have been postponed until Sunday due to the storm, as has Wexford's First Division game with UCD.

Waterford stated: "Waterford FC regrets to inform fans that tonight’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division clash against Drogheda United FC has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

"The re-scheduled fixture will take play this Sunday (5th October) with a 16:00 kick-off at the RSC. All tickets bought for tonight’s game will be valid for Sunday’s game."

The LOI: "Due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Amy and with an Amber Warning for high winds in place in Derry and an Orange weather warning in place in Sligo, a decision has been made to postpone tonight’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division fixture at The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium between Derry City and Sligo Rovers.

"This decision has been taken in conjunction with DCSDC, PSNI, Irish Red Cross, and both Clubs. The fixture will now take place on Sunday, October 5 at 4pm.

"Following a pitch inspection at Ferrycarrig Park amid heavy rainfall in the area, tonight’s SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division fixture between Wexford and UCD has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

"This fixture will be rescheduled for this Sunday, October 5 at 4pm."
