Treaty United's women's team manager Seán Russell is departing the club with immediate effect, failing to see out his first full season at the helm.

Russell had a promising League of Ireland career ended by injury at 25, migrating into coaching in 2019 with Limerick FC.

Their successor as the League of Ireland club in the city, Treaty United, retained Russell and he was promoted to senior boss last October in succession to former Ireland striker Dominic Foley.

Treaty were faring well on the pitch until a recent blip saw them beaten by Bohemians for a place in the FAI Cup final and then comprehensively defeated 6-0 by Peamount United on Saturday.

Russell exits Markets Field with two games of the campaign remaining. They sit seventh in the 12-team division.

“Seán has been a valued member of our club and has played an important role in building standards for our women’s side on and off the pitch,” said Ciara McCormack, the former Ireland international currently operating as chief executive of Treaty United.

“On behalf of everyone at Treaty United, we thank him for his hard work and wish him the very best in his next chapter.”

Treaty will begin the recruitment process immediately for the 2026 season, kicking off next March.

The club added: "Treaty United remains committed to investing in the women’s game, strengthening our player pathway and representing Limerick and the mid-west with pride."

Meanwhile, Waterford's men's team have added former Ireland U21 and Tottenham Hotspur winger Mark Yeates to their caretaker coaching team.

The Blues' Fleetwood Town owners on Sunday reinstalled Matt Lawlor as caretaker boss, having relieved manager John Coleman and Danny Ventre of their duties after the team slipped into the relegation playoff spot.
