English League One outfit Lincoln City are attempting to snare Shamrock Rovers’ Cork-born defender Josh Honohan before the transfer deadline.
Honohan has been a revelation for the Hoops since joining from his hometown club at the start of last season.
He was a mainstay of their run to the knockout stages of the Uefa Conference League that included a trip to Chelsea and was in the team that shocked Portuguese outfit Santa Clara 2-1 in the same competition on Thursday night.
Heimir Hallgrímsson took an interest too, promoting the versatile defender to his squad for the June friendlies, although he remains uncapped.
It’s believed Lincoln are prepared to pay €350,000 for the 24-year-old.
They have begun League One brightly under Michael Skubala, winning three of their opening four games, and they travel to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. Former Shelbourne attacker Jack Moylan is part of their squad.
Despite the live interest, Honohan will definitely be sticking around for Thursday’s crunch Conference second leg.
Rovers are within 90 minutes of a second successive progression to the league phase, their third in four years.
Seeing out the playoff would guarantee just over half of last year’s €6.8m windfall, with six games to play between October and December.
The draw takes place next week in Monaco.
