Ireland’s Robbie Brady has rejected alternative offers in the Championship to remain as a Preston North End player for at least next season.

The 33-year-old became a free agent at the end of the season three weeks ago but after mulling over his options has accepted an extension from the club he joined in 2022.

The former Manchester United, Hull City, Norwich City, Burnley and Bournemouth player has racked up 100 appearances since.

His new deal includes the option of an extra 12 months which would bring Brady beyond his 35th birthday at Deepdale.

The Dubliner will report into Ireland camp this weekend ahead of the double-header friendly against Senegal at home on Friday week and away to Luxembourg four days later.

Preston manager Paul Heckingbottom expressed his delight at securing the 70-times capped left-sided player for next season.

"Getting Robbie signed up is great news for us,” he said.

“I think his quality’s there for all to see. He’s got a great delivery with his left foot, he’s a player who can do a number of different jobs for us as we saw last season, and he’s got real fight in his game.

“He’s someone who can really impact matches. He’s a big part of things behind the scenes, too, so we’re really pleased he’ll be here again next season.”

Brady said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and I’m looking forward to another season ahead.

“The manager’s been honest with me since the minute he came in and I think we've got on since. It's been brilliant for me to be able to go back and forward with the manager like that.

“I know he has trust in me and from chats I've had with him he gives me the confidence that I need to be able to perform.”
