Tim Clancy has left his role as Cork City manager following the 2-1 loss to Derry City on Friday night.
Clancy guided City to First Division promotion in 2024, but the club currently lie ninth in the Premier Division, eight points adrift of eighth place Galway United.
A ninth position finish at the end of the season would mean a play-off against a First Division team.
Despite their league position, Clancy's decision to depart following the Turner's Cross defeat was not expected.
Upon his departure, Clancy noted his decision to leave 'was his and his alone'.
“The decision to leave is mine and mine alone. I am proud to have brought this team back to the League of Ireland Premier Division, and believe they have so much more to give,” Clancy said.
“I would like to thank the players, Dermot Usher and the entire staff at Cork City FC for the opportunity to work with them, and wish them the best for the remainder of the season.”
Club owner Dermot Usher added: "I spoke with Tim this evening, and while obviously disappointed, I fully respect his decision.
"On behalf of the club, I would like to thank him for his commitment over the past 18 months, and for everything he has done for the Rebel Army.”
City will now begin their search for a new manager.
