Cobh continue unbeaten start as they slot five past Longford Town
UNBEATEN: Cobh Ramblers' Shane Griffin is congratulated by his team-mates after scoring with a well-struck free kick against Longford Town, during their SSE Airtricity League First Division clash, at St Colman's Park.
Cobh Ramblers continued their unbeaten start to the league season by hammering Longford Town 5-0 at St Colman’s Park.
Mick McDermott’s side had a perfect night, and it began with goals from Samuel Bellis and Waterford native Shane Griffin giving them a 2-0 lead inside five minutes.
Barry Coffey’s netted a brace with David Bosnjak also getting in to score after coming on as a substitute.
Everything started with a close range Bellis strike and Shane Griffin followed that up by curling in a free-kick at the Liam McMahon Stand.
Longford did have chances, with the best one a goal-bound Aaron Doran shot that was blocked by Jonas Häkkinen.
That was followed by Coffey heading in a cross by Waterford native Shane Griffin, and the home side led 3-0 at the break.
The midfielder was set up by Niall O’Keeffe to make it 4-0 and it was effectively game over at the 56th minute.
Longford tried to reinvent themselves with a quadruple substitution late-on, but nothing materialised for Wayne Groves’ side.
Bosnjak’s second league goal at the 82nd minute polished the win for Cobh, who play Finn Harps away from home next week.
