Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that they will allow RTÉ cameras into Tallaght Stadium for their Premier Division fixture with Sligo Rovers on September 13.

Rovers had previously speculated that they were "considering if they will facilitate any future requests" from RTÉ to televise domestic home matches, but after a "productive" meeting with RTÉ and the FAI recently, the club have suggested that progress has been made.

Their consideration followed news that RTÉ would not be airing their Europa League play-off match against PAOK. Before that fixture, the Tallaght outfit had already been through two European rounds, none of which was shown on television.

A Shamrock Rovers statement read: "After much media coverage and recent debate, a meeting was convened and attended by Shamrock Rovers F.C, RTÉ TV Sport and the FAI in relation to National TV coverage of Irish football, with particular reference to recent European ties.

"Following the meeting between the three parties, we can confirm that progress has been made in regard to having a clearer transparency of the perspectives of each party in relation to broadcast TV coverage of Irish teams in European competitive tournaments and, of our domestic league.

"It was a productive meeting; a professional, informative and respectful sharing of views which allowed all parties understand clearly the realities facing each other."

It continued: "The expectation is that, with the strategic input of the FAI, media broadcasters and critically, the professional football clubs, this will result in the continual improvement of TV coverage of Irish football teams across the football season.

"Shamrock Rovers look forward to the broadcast of our next fixture against Sligo Rovers live on RTÉ2 on the 13th of September from Tallaght Stadium."
