Waterford sell Romeo Akachukwu to Southampton for club record fee

After finally confirming the move to Saints following his 18th birthday, Akachukwu said: "I’m buzzing. The standard is obviously really good and it’s a place I feel like I can thrive so I’m just looking forward to the season to get going."

Waterford FC have officially confirmed that they have sold Romeo Akachukwu to Premier League side Southampton for a club record fee, believed to be at least €500,000.

The 18-year-old forward arrives on the south coast, where he will initially start with the Saints' U23s, after interest from several clubs in the Premier League and abroad over the last year.
