Ex-Everton centre-half Heitinga appointed Liverpool assistant coach

Heitinga won 87 caps for the Netherlands and representing Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham and Hertha BSC before hanging up his boots in 2016.

Former Everton centre-half John Heitinga has joined Arne Slot's Liverpool backroom as the new boss' assistant coach.

During his playing days, Heitinga won 87 caps for the Netherlands and also represented Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Everton, Fulham and Hertha BSC at club level before hanging up his boots in 2016.

He then moved into coaching, working with various youth teams within the Ajax set-up, before taking charge of the Amsterdam club’s senior side between January and June 2023.

Most recently, Heitinga worked as assistant coach at West Ham United last term.
