Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott has completed his move to Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.

23-cap international Parrott has signed a five-year-deal to keep him at AZ until 2029, with a fee of up to £6m - if add-on milestones are achieved - agreed.

The 22-year-old's new club will play Europa League football next year having finished fourth in last season’s Eredivisie.

"I'm really excited... before I signed here, I heard a lot of good stories about AZ and I spoke to Kenzo Goudmijn, who I became friends with when I played with him," Parrott said upon completing his move.

"I think AZ is the perfect club for me to take the next steps in my development.

"I'll take the experience of last year with me. It helps that I already played in the Netherlands last season, so I'm used to the league and life here.

"I'm very, very happy to be here."

The Dubliner has been tied to Tottenham since the age of 14, but the dream of succeeding Harry Keane has ended after eight years and just four first-team appearances.

His last three years have been predominantly spent out on loan.

On the chance of drawing his old club in Europe, the striker said: "I would love it, I would love to play against them. Obviously, I'm a player of AZ now, so yeah, I would love to play and love to win."

His 17 goals and five assists for a struggling Excelsior side last season brought him to the attention of bigger outfits and, as Ange Postecoglou doesn’t see the 22-year-old in his plans, Spurs were open to a deal.

The most recent of his five international goals was the winner against Hungary in June, the strike sealing a 2-1 victory, John O’Shea’s only one of a four-game interim stint.

Parrott will wear the number nine at his new club.
