Seamus Coleman is no stranger to noise. The season just passed has been wall-to-wall ill tidings with Everton. Points have been docked, a new ownership plan has disappeared into the Mersey docks where the new stadium is being built and they flirted uncomfortably with relegation from the Premier League.

It is a backdrop that makes the incessant uncertainty around the identity of the next Republic of Ireland manager sound like nothing more than the annoying buzzing of a stubborn bee but England arrive in Dublin in September for a Nations League tie and time is ticking on.
